Beyond GDP – Measuring Progress, Creating Impact Forum 2026
On March 11, 2026, the Malaysian CSO–SDG Alliance (MCSA) convened the Beyond GDP – Measuring Progress, Creating Impact Forum 2026 at the Za’ba Memorial Library, University of Malaya. Bringing together 130 stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, and international bodies, the forum focused on a vital economic shift: expanding Malaysia's national progress metrics past traditional GDP to deeply incorporate human well-being, equity, and environmental sustainability.
Following the main forum, MCSA hosted a high-level Expert Group Discussion, co-chaired by MCSA Beyond GDP Lead Ms. Lavanya Rama Iyer and former Minister of Economy Dato’ Sri Mustapha Mohamad. Featuring a global policy briefing from the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, this closed-door session mapped out practical, localized steps for Malaysia. The expert panel reached a consensus to focus on an integrated, multi-stakeholder Three-Pillar Dashboard Approach (Well-being, Equity & Inclusion, and Sustainability). Moving forward, MCSA is anchoring this initiative by establishing a dedicated technical working group to conduct a landscape gap analysis, building a tiered stakeholder advocacy roadmap, and rolling out localized community-level pilot tracking.
